Summary of the Session

There’s a strange kind of heaviness in the world right now. You can feel it in the news, in our communities, even in our bodies. Disconnection is everywhere—disconnection from ourselves, from one another, and from the wider spiritual universe we belong to.

And yet, in the middle of this disconnection, I’ve seen a surprising rise in people turning to clowning. Not as an escape, but as a way in. A way back. Clowning can be a deeply relevant and powerful response to our global crises. We’re not just putting on red noses and acting silly—we’re remembering how to be human.

Clowning as a Path to Reconnection

At its core, clowning invites us into three essential qualities:

  • Acknowledging what’s true—even when it’s uncomfortable

  • Breaking the rules—especially the ones that no longer serve us

  • Being radically present—moment to moment

These aren’t just performance techniques; they’re tools for healing. Clowning helps us face our imperfections rather than hide them. It gives us permission to let go of “how things are supposed to be” and experiment with what could be. That spirit of play might be exactly what’s needed when conventional systems and problem-solving methods are no longer enough.

The Clown as Transformer

I often say that clowns are masters of transformation. Not because they change other people, but because they are willing to be changed themselves, right in front of an audience. And in doing so, they invite others to soften, to open, to feel.

In the workshop I share a simple breathing meditation based on the six directions—North, South, East, West, Above, and Below. It’s a grounding practice that connects us to place, to body, and to presence. But it’s also a playful one. We combine breath with movement, explore variations, and allow our individuality to emerge. Even on Zoom, you can feel the shift in energy.

Embracing the Power of Imperfection

At the end of the exercise participants shared how much their energy changed just by being seen—by letting themselves be imperfect together. For many, it was a relief: finally letting go of “getting it right” and discovering what’s alive instead.

This is the magic of clowning: not performing, but practicing presence. Not seeking perfection, but finding freedom. Whether online or in person, these kinds of shared moments create real, tangible connection.

Clown Spirit Village: A Place to Belong

Toward the end of our time together, I introduced Clown Spirit Village—our growing community of people who are exploring clowning as a path of joy, healing, and transformation. Members get access to monthly masterclasses, group coaching, and a whole library of courses and resources. Whether you’re brand new to clowning or have been doing it for decades, there’s a place for you.

Subscriptions are tiered from $29–$69 per month, but I always offer scholarships and discounts when needed—because I want this work to be accessible. What matters most is your presence, your curiosity, your willingness to play.

We need each other now more than ever. And I truly believe that clowning, strange as it may seem, offers something essential for the times we’re living through.

Come in and join us.
